
eka-samaye ca-ubhaya-anavadhāraṇam
And both cannot be apprehended simultaneously
When a mind seizes an object, it is focused on the external, looking out. When the mind tries to understand how the mind works, it looks inwards. The mind can perform both actions but not simultaneously. Therefore, you can either focus your awareness on the world of experience or on internal awareness, but you cannot do both.
