Through release of the causes of attachment and through perfect knowledge of the functions of the mind, one knows inside of the body of others.
Causes of attachment to the body like fear of death, ego, etc., weigh upon your mind. You must bring awareness to this and then relax the tension and let it go. The entire process of Yoga is one of removing attachment/obstacles so that the true Self, which is there all along, can be revealed. To this end, Patanjali emphasises the importance of this dual undertaking of working with the body and mind, and therefore, the importance of asana.
Once you know your true Self, you will also know every other Self; inside and out.
